Watermaker spares, membranes and consumables in Australia.
Prefilters, membranes, pump seals and pickling chemicals. The running cost nobody quotes you at the point of sale, and the reason to check parts availability before you buy a brand.

What spares and consumables involves
Prefilters
The consumable you buy most often — 5 micron then 20 micron in most setups, changed on pressure drop rather than a calendar. Buy them by the box; in silty anchorages they are close to a weekly item.
Membranes
Sized in standard diameters and lengths, so they are widely available, but the part number matters and so does the pressure vessel. Five to ten years is normal if flushed and pickled; two is normal if not.
Pump seals and valves
The wear parts on a high-pressure pump. A rebuild kit is a small fraction of a pump, and having one aboard on a long passage is the difference between a repair and a delivery.
Chemicals
Biocide for pickling, plus alkaline and acid cleaners. All have shelf lives and some ship only by road within Australia, which is worth knowing before you need them urgently.
What to ask before you book
- What is the exact membrane part number and length for my system?Brands rebadge standard elements. With the real part number you can source it anywhere instead of only through one importer.
- Are genuine and generic prefilters both suitable here?Prefilters are the least proprietary part of the system, and the price difference over a season is significant.
- What is the lead time on a pump rebuild kit?If the answer is measured in weeks from overseas, buy one now and stow it, rather than when the pump is already apart.
- Which chemicals do you stock, and how are they shipped?Dangerous-goods rules mean some cannot be air-freighted to remote areas. Plan the layup, do not improvise it.

Common questions
- How many Australian businesses handle watermaker spares and consumables?
- 11 of the 38 verified providers in our directory list spares and consumables among their services, across 6 states (New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia). That is what each business claims in its own listing; confirm scope and availability when you call.
- What does watermaker spares and consumables cost?
- We do not publish prices for it, because they turn on the boat, the brand and the travel involved, and a made-up range would be worse than none. The four questions above are what turn a vague number into a comparable quote — ask them of two providers and the difference will be obvious.
- Is there someone near me?
- 3 cruising regions have two or more local providers doing this work: Gold Coast, Sydney and Pittwater, Perth and Fremantle. Outside those, look at the state pages — several businesses travel, and a few supply Australia-wide.

Before you call anyone
How this list is built. A business appears here when its own directory listing, its category, or the note recorded when we verified it names this work. Nothing is inferred from business type: a dealer is not assumed to install, and an engineering firm is not assumed to know watermakers. Where a listing is silent, the business is absent from this page even if it does the work — ask them. Regional pages exist only on the Gold Coast and elsewhere that two or more local providers claim it.
