Watermaker installation in Australia.
Fitting a system into a boat is most of the cost that is not the box itself. These businesses do the through-hulls, the plumbing and the wiring, not just the sale.
By cruising region
Where two or more local businesses do this work, there is a page for that region.
What installation involves
Intake and discharge
A dedicated raw-water intake with its own seacock and strainer, and a brine discharge above the waterline where you can see it running. Sharing an engine intake is the single most common shortcut and the one that causes air locks.
The power run
A DC system pulling 20 to 60 amps needs cable sized for the run length, its own breaker and a solid connection to the bank. On AC, whether it starts on your inverter or only on shore power and genset decides where the unit can live.
Mounting and access
The high-pressure pump wants a rigid, dry, ventilated mount. More importantly you have to reach the prefilter every few weeks and the membrane housing once a year — a beautiful install you cannot service becomes an unserviced install.
Commissioning
First run, pressure set, product water tested and a TDS baseline recorded so you can tell later whether the membrane is drifting. Ask for that number in writing at handover.
What to ask before you book
- Does the quote include through-hulls, seacocks and hose, or unit only? This is where install quotes diverge most. Get the hardware itemised or you are comparing two different jobs.
- What is the cable run, and does my existing bank and breaker suit it?An undersized run drops voltage under load, which shows up as poor output and gets blamed on the membrane.
- Where will it mount, and can I reach the prefilter and membrane from there?Servicing access decides whether the system gets maintained. Ask to see the intended location before work starts.
- Is commissioning included, and will you record a TDS baseline at handover?Without a first-day reading you have nothing to compare against when output falls in year three.

Common questions
- How many Australian businesses handle watermaker installation?
- 19 of the 38 verified providers in our directory list installation among their services, across 3 states (New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia). That is what each business claims in its own listing; confirm scope and availability when you call.
- What does watermaker installation cost?
- We do not publish prices for it, because they turn on the boat, the brand and the travel involved, and a made-up range would be worse than none. The four questions above are what turn a vague number into a comparable quote — ask them of two providers and the difference will be obvious.
- Is there someone near me?
- 6 cruising regions have two or more local providers doing this work: Gold Coast, Brisbane and Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Pittwater, Perth and Fremantle, Regional Western Australia. Outside those, look at the state pages — several businesses travel, and a few supply Australia-wide.

Before you call anyone
How this list is built. A business appears here when its own directory listing, its category, or the note recorded when we verified it names this work. Nothing is inferred from business type: a dealer is not assumed to install, and an engineering firm is not assumed to know watermakers. Where a listing is silent, the business is absent from this page even if it does the work — ask them. Regional pages exist only on the Gold Coast and elsewhere that two or more local providers claim it.
